Remind them how happy they are when they get something.

Thanks for the giveaway!

I tell them it is nicer to give then recieve. I think that it is important for them to understand that sometimes giving someone something gives you a nicer feeling then being the one getting something. :)

I explain to my grandsons that giving makes you feel good and you want to make others feel good, too!

My kids are now adults and always made it fun trying to pick out gifts for others.

We don't ever have to really encourage our daughter to give gifts. She's always been so generous, and it's always been my firm belief that children are influenced by example. When they see their parents being generous and giving, they naturally will do the same :)

Thank you for an awesome giveaway!

We like to donate money (when we can), to a variety of charities at local stores or people out on the street.
Thank you for the wonderful giveaway!
I hope you have a happy holiday!

As a family we each pick up a gift for another child or family member and pick a charity (Toys for Tots of Load the Bus) each year and donate it. The kids get really excited about it and have a great time!

We also go through all our old clothes and toys this time each year and donate them as well.

I encourage my children to pay attention to what their family & friends talk about so that when it comes time to give a gift they might be able to give something that they know that specific person really wants or would enjoy.

I try to teach my children to give from the heart. They put away a little bit from their allowance each year throughout the year, and in December, they get to pick out an angel from the Angel Tree to shop for :)

Thanks so much for this giveaway! I love when people give books, specially when it's something thoughtful, and I encourage that in gift giving, no matter whom it's for.

I talk to them about how much they like to receive gifts and explain that everyone loves to receive gifts, so they should also give a gift. It doesn't have to be store bought, It can be hand made and the recipient will love it because they took the time to make something just for them.
Hope you have a wonderful holiday. Thanks for being part of the hop and for the chance to win. <^_^>

I don't have kids yet, but I would pay for the gift and let them pick something out that they think the person would like. I would tell them to think about how excited that other person would be.

I don't have any children, but I have a younger brother and I tell him to remember we have a lot more than others can say. A warm home, food, even luxury items like games so it's important to remember others don't have the same and, thus, give some :)

Thanks!

I dont have any children of my own right now but I do encourage my young cousins and such to give away books and or share them by reminding them how much they enjoyed reading the story and how much better it would be to share that fun with a friend.

I have been reading to my kid since she was in utero! We go to the .library twice a week, and she gets books for very birthday and holiday. It's always been a part of her life so she finds comfort and pleasure in reading

One idea is to let the child have a certain amount to spend and then let him or her pick it out.

I like for my kids to give a personal gift if it is someone we know well--like a favorite thing. But I always have them write their own greetings to the person.

I don' necessarily do anything specific to encourage gift giving. I hope that they are able to see the joy it gives me and others when I give gifts. To me being an example, showing them instead of telling them is a much more powerful lesson.

My daughter is grown now but I hope I instilled giving into her. I always encouraged her to share with the less fortunate as she was an only child and received pretty much everything she wanted. I tried showing her compassion for others mostly.

Thanks so much for being a part of the hop and the great giveaway.

Merry Christmas,

This time of year we always pick an ornament off the giving tree and buy a gift for a local child in need.

Unknown said...

I try to set the example by giving. Tonight, we went shopping for them to get a little gift for them to give to their best friends (which was their idea, and they used their own money). While there, I shopped for two toys for them to take to their dance class, to give to the Toys for Tots-which the dance studio asked us to give instead of gifts to the dance instructors. On the way out, I gave to the Salvation Army Santa. It makes me feel good to give when I can, and kids learn what they live. thanks!

Yes, we encourage our boys to give gifts to their grandparents and other special people in their lives. They get to choose the gift within a certain budget.

No kids yet sorry. But I'd teach them to give to the needy. And also to donate old toys and books and clothes to organizations!

Maybe, remind them how they felt when they receive a gift and hope they feel like doing that for someone they care about.

My kids and I always picked a child from the Angel Tree at the mall and went shopping for them. Each kid got to pick a present by themselves and then we group-shopped for a few more. They loved it then and continued the tradition as grown-ups.

When a TV show is on and there are kids that live in third world countries or here in the US and don't have anything I make them watch it and I talk to them about what they don't have and what they have and should be very thankful for what they have so when Christmas time comes around and at Walmart there is a Christmas tree with papers for donations my kids actually want to help kids that don't have anything. And I love when they want to help other people.

Tracy Allen said...

I encourage them to really think about what that person would like or need. The other day, my niece chose a dayplanner for her busy mom after considering earrings and gloves - the planner is what she could really use

We have on more than one occasion donated items to those who needed them more. We have adopted "Angel Tree" families for Christmas and sent money for a good cause....always with the explanation as to why "are we giving them money". I hope my son will always be as giving as he is right now. Happy Holidays to you and yours.
