You are now entering the world of my thoughts.

This blog is my diary of works in progress. The only way a writer can improve upon her skill is to practice, practice and practice some more. Here, in this place of quiet peace, I pen to paper my thoughts and creativity. Welcome to my world.

Guest Post: A Poet Name Fida

I love poetry though I have never really been good at it. So I admire anyone who is blessed with the talent to create poetry. I would love to introduce you all to a wonderful you lady who aspires to publish her very own collection of poetry. Meet Fida Islaih.  Fida will share her writing journey with us today.
Take it away Fida!

~~~~~**********~~~~~~*********~~~~~~~~********~~~~~~~~********
I've been writing for as long as I can remember, but I didn't get serious until I was in middle school. I have a drawer full of unedited stories.
I was first into writing poetry. I was sitting in class with a poetry project. I enjoyed it and write extra poems for it. After that I continued writing poems.
I read Does My Head Look Big in This by Randa Abdel-Fattah. It inspired me to write a similar story. A few months later I gave it a major rewrite. After that I was inspired to put all the good and bad experiences in different stories I wanted to write. I could make the MC do what I couldn't do. It made me feel better in so many ways.
I'm hoping to self publish my poetry in the next few months and years. I might self publish my novellas, too. I'm also trying to make them full novels and be able to query them and maybe get an agent. I know a few are interested in the concepts, but like I said, I have to work on length.
Like I said I've been writing poetry for awhile and I get easily inspired by everything: my experiences and nature. I have more than enough for a collection.
Recently I participated in the A to Z Challenge and saw that from previous years people self publish their posts. I thought I should do the same. I also thought 26 poems isn't enough. I decided to put in 100 poems. I did exactly that. Right now I'm crowdfunding the collection so that I could get help monetary and professionally for self publishing it.
I hope you guys are willing to join in. You can find the synopsis, excerpt, and place to donate at poetfida.pubslush.com
Thank you!
Look into My Eyes
I am happy that my writing group has started up again. I missed the last session and probably would have missed this week's session had it not been for technology (Go Skype!) I was able to attend via skype. Our writing exercise this week was to write about a part of the body. I chose the eye. Below is what I did for the exercise.  Let's just say it was an 'eye-opener' for me!
Pic from here (labeled for reuse)
Look into My Eyes
They say that 'the eye is the window to your soul.'
But can you really know my secrets
by looking into my eyes?
What do my eyes tell you
when they are filled with tears?
Is it sadness you see,
pent up frustrations, or fears?
What do my eyes tell you
when they rage with fire?
Is it anger you see,
my strong will, passions or desire?
What do my eyes tell you
when they are filled with light?
Is it happiness you see,
or a faith that leads to a path that's right?
My eyes may say many things
but unless you have the key,
my soul remains locked
for only God and me.
Now, it is your turn. Choose a part of the body and write. :)
Dearest Mama
Through out my life, Allah (swt) has blessed with so many things, awesome family, trusted friends, valuable life experiences, fun travels, wonderful job, good health, and a great sense of humor. :D But there is not one blessing from Allah (swt) that I cherish greater than the mother He blessed me with.
Dearest mama,
You are my heart, my soul, my wonder and my goal.
I love you mama because you…..
Loved, nutured and cared for me, even when I was wrong.
Offered me wisdom and guidance as a wonderful role model through every bumpy turn and fall I took.
Valued my feelings, ideas, hopes, and dreams even when no one else did.
Encouraged, inspired and supported me in all my endeavors no matter how far my imagination carried me away.
Devoted your life and made great sacrifices for me so that one day, I too could touch the lives and hearts of so many family, friends and the stranger in need.
me, for who I was, am and will always be,
your precious child, eldest daughter, and best friend.
With all my heart,
I love you Mama.Y
Flower Song
clear blue skies,
soft gentle breeze,
fresh scented petals,
lazy daydreams fly away,
he loves me, he loves me not....
flower song.
Just Sitting
Just sitting.
In a crowded room, I am alone.
Noise all around, but I hear nothing.
I just sit.
Waiting.
Listening.
Until I find my voice.
Classroom poem
I wrote this poem to add to pictures my toddler students painted and gave as presents to their parents. It was a fun project to do with them and the parents loved it! :)
I'm Happy You are My Mommy and Daddy
For all the times you spend with me,
For all the yummy treats you make for me,
For all the sleep you lose for me,
For all the hugs and kisses you give me,
And for all the patience you have with me,
I'm happy you're my mommy and daddy.
For all the wonders you help me see,
For the little person you let me be,
For all the things you do for me,
For all the care you give to me,
And for all the love you shower upon me,
I'm happy you're my mommy and daddy.
In My Eyes
In my eyes
I am a believing woman,
obedient to my Lord.
I am a strong woman,
confident in my choices.
In my eyes,
I am a tall woman,
forever reaching great heights.
I am a responsible woman,
I own up to my mistakes.
In my eyes,
I am a noble woman,
expectant of dignity and equality
I am a simple woman,
grateful for my good life
In my eyes,
I am a reliable woman,
I do what needs to be done.
I am an outstanding woman,
I aspire to achieve my goals.
In my eyes,
I am a wise woman,
I use my knowledge with purpose.
I am a sensitive woman,
I sometimes cry, pout and fuss.
In my eyes,
I am a cautious woman,
My trust must be earned
I am a sensible woman,
I don't expect the universe.
In my eyes,
I am a nuturing woman,
full of love and compassion.
I am a righteous woman,
Faithful to my Creator.
In my eyes,
I am a social woman,
I love rolling with my sisterhood.
I am a free woman,
I own my life, my body and my mind.
In my eyes,
I am a woman.
Night Sounds
Night Sounds
Sun down.
Moon bright.
Stars twinkle in the night.
Crickets chirp.
Owls hoot.
Wolves howl at the moon.
Frogs croak.
Mice squeak.
Winds whisper through the tree.
Mommies hum.
Daddies snore.
Babies drift to sleepy-time shore.
Everything in Creation Says, Ameen.
Everything in Creation Says, Ameen.
From the trees bowing in the winds, to the birds beating their wings.
Everything in creation says, Ameen.
From the humming birds hum, to the rolling thunder's drum
Everything in creation says, Ameen.
From the sun shining bright, to the stars blinking lights.
Everything in creation says Ameen.
From the creepy crawlers, to the moonlight callers.
Everything in creation says, Ameen.
From the volcanoes eruptive glow, to the seas ebb and flow.
Everything in creation says, Ameen.
From the early morning whisperer, to the faithful and humble worshiper.
Everything in creation says, Ameen.
From the East to the West, from the North to the South.
Everything in creation says, Ameen.
When baby has a bad day...
When baby has a bad day,
he fusses and he cries.
When baby has a bad day,
he needs lots of hugs.
When baby has a bad day,
he tosses and he falls.
When baby has a bad day,
he needs a shoulder to lay on.
When baby has a bad day,
he pushes and he bites.
When baby has a bad day,
he needs quiet time alone.
When baby has a bad day,
he has a hard time sharing with friends.
When baby has a bad day,
he needs a fluffy friend to hold.
When baby has a bad day,
he is cranky and  he is tired.
When baby has a bad day,
he needs a soft bed and a gently kiss
When baby has a bad day and nothing goes his way,
he needs lots of patience and love.
Time Flies
Time is flying,
flying past me.
What have I done,
during this time?
What have I left behind?
What will I take with me?
Mercy like the Rain
Mercy like the rain, covers like mist;
Gentle to the touch, thoughtful and reminiscent.
Mercy like the rain, is light as a drizzle;
To moisten the heart and refresh the faith.
Mercy like the rain, is steady like a sprinkle;
To wash away hardship and grief, bringing ease and relief.
Mercy like the rain, falls like a shower;
It waters the heart and fertilizes the soul.
Mercy like the rain, beats down like pelts;
eroding and erasing sin, washing it away.
Mercy like the rain, rages like a storm;
It attacks pride and tears away arrogance.
Mercy like the rain, cascades and floods;
Drowning spite and envy, leaving behind kindness and goodwill.
Mercy like the rain, is all around;
For the giving and the taking, the hopeful and the woeful.
Month of Mercy
The sunsets
The new moon rises
All eyes gaze to the mountian's horizon
The month is new
The air is swift
As believers welcome the blessed guest
With vows of patience
And lips pressed sealed
Hearts are washed as heads are kneeled
Fasting by day and praying by night
Seeking guidance and closeness
to Allah the Most High
Moon waxing, moon waning
To the beginning and the end
The Month of Mercy will pass and come again
Ramadan Mubarik!
My Faithful Friend
Come again my faithful friend,
Take hold of my hand.
Carry me to a place of comfort,
A place to rest my fears.
A winding road that leads on,
A guiding light to tread upon.
Wrap my fears in warm solace,
Take my hand and don't let go.
For every humble tear I shed today,
Will leave my faith strong and aglow..
God's Word
My word
is my word.
God's word is Divine.
Take God's word,
not mine.
Wind Journey
Wind Journey
Whispering winds,
rustling through leaves.
Tales of journeys, from
across the seas.
Wandering over meadows, and
rolling down valleys.
Raising sand dunes, and
unleashing mansoons.
Carrying life and destruction
clouds and seasons.
Whispering winds,
rustling through leaves.
With stories and adventures
from across the seas.
