You are now entering the world of my thoughts.

This blog is my diary of works in progress. The only way a writer can improve upon her skill is to practice, practice and practice some more. Here, in this place of quiet peace, I pen to paper my thoughts and creativity. Welcome to my world.

The Book That Could Not Be Read.

So I am having a bit of a problem. There's this book that I have been trying to read for a very VERY long time. And guess what page I am on - a whopping page number 36! Believe me, I have TRIED to sit down and read the book but I just can't get into it. I am one to stick with a book up until the end, even if it is a bad book. For some reason, I feel defeated if I don't finish a book from start to end. But this book is different.

But now, I am reaching the "I Quit" zone. And to think the book had such good reviews on Goodreads, but I'm just not feeling it! Then there is the matter of disposing of said book. I want to get rid of it but I feel bad giving it away when I think it is boring, confusing and just not written very well. Is it okay for me to give it away to perhaps someone else who may or may not like it? Should I give it away with a disclaimer? Ugh! I have never really been in this kind of predicament before. I need help!

At what point do you put a book down for good? What do you do with a book that you just can't read?

I think I usually give a book to the halfway point. It's hard for me to give up but after a while I just skim the book till I seem something interesting.

If I don't like a book by 50 pages in then I'm done. Life is too short and there are too many good books out there waiting to be read.

I do giveaway books I don't finish. Usually there are plenty of people to rave out the book, so I don't feel bad. At least it's going to a new home with a new reader willing to try it on for size instead of sitting on my shelves collecting dust.

Another idea is to donate it to the library. My library takes donations and has a book sale, and they can always use the money.

I used to really struggle with this. But my time is just too precious. Now, if I'm not feeling a book after three chapters, I put in the towel and donate it to my public library.

I have been in this situation and I agree with Bekka. What would I do? Take it to the charity shop, give to some one else whom might like it pop it in the paper recycling bin!

I put down a book if 1) it is too boring, 2) bad writing/editing. i say give it away. if there's a lot of good reviews on goodreads, chances are someone else will enjoy it :) that's how I see it. I give away books I don't enjoy as much away so others can enjoy it

Thank you ladies, I now don't feel bad about not liking the book to the point I can't finish reading it. I will go ahead with my idea of giving it away. :)
